From Library Journal In his second collection of designs, Blackwell presents "the most innovative interiors" created within the late Eighties. Many of the restaurants, shops, and public facilities presented here are striking in their combination of textures, colors, and technological ingenuity. Though Blackwell claims to have taken an objective approach to the criteria for inclusion, these designs are dominated by a spare, high-tech, minimalist aesthetic. Further, since most of the photographs show unoccupied spaces, one wonders if indeed humans were a part of the design equation. Although Blackwell's uncritical anaylsis of these interior spaces finds them all to be almost perfect in conception and execution, the photographs argue the contrary. Though this book is useful as a visual overview of contemporary design, it is little more than promotional copy.-Douglas G.
